The cancellation of Caprica and moving Stargate: Universe to a new night put us sci-fi geeks on high alert. Stargate: Universe‘s ratings weren’t good. To be honest, I had a hard time liking the show. It was clever, shot well, the sets were gorgeous, the ships and space scenes were awesome, the actors were phenomenal but it just didn’t pull me in like I wanted. Space battles were few and far between, we didn’t get any real aliens until second season, the show wasn’t funny like previous incarnations of Stargate, I didn’t really care about the mission, the journey or the destiny of Destiny. The most disappointing thing about Stargate: Universe is that I was pulled in by Lou Diamond Phillips and they used him poorly. Dammit guys, just dammit!
After month’s of giving the “meh” to SGU, it’s now gone for good. Am I happy? … Well … Yes and no. I hate to see anyone out of work but it’s one less show that I have to watch. I’d stop watching Stargate: Universe for awhile but friends kept pulling me back in. Watching was a chore. Science fiction television shouldn’t be like this. I think what I really wanted was energy, humor, action and lightness of Stargate: SG-1 and all I got was… I’m not sure what I got. It’s over, I’m moving on and I will not be joining any campaigns.
Via TV by the Numbers:
Syfy has canceled Stargate Universe. The final 10 episodes of the series, set to air this spring will be its last.
While predicting outcomes is much more difficult on cable than broadcast, it had been pulling a 0.5 rating with adults 18-49 in its most recent airings. Holiday-themed episodes of Eureka and Warehouse 13 last week performed 40% and 60% better respectively than the most recent original of SGU.
Crap. Just heard the news as well. Apparently, nobody decided to tell us ahead of time. My rep heard it online. Seems they cancelled #SGU..
How terrible is this?! I understand that companies want to contain leaks but the actors don’t deserve to be told like this. David Blue is an awesome actor, he and the rest of those actors will most certainly find another gig. I hope this experience won’t keep them away from acting in the sci-fi genre in the future. Love ya Blue!
